The Court opened at 11 o'olook. Lunacy pbom Dbink.— William Wheal, who had been remanded for medical treatment, was again brought up, and being fully reooverod, was dismissed with a caution. DISOBBYINGt AN OBDBB OF TUB COUBT.— Anthony Ferriok, who appeared in Court under the influence of liquor, answered to an adjourned ohargo of having negleoted an order of tho Court to pay £1 per week toward* tho support of his ohildren in the Industrial School. Aooused, in reply to ths Benoh, said he did hot attend the Court yesterday, because he was i)l. Mr Oolee, master of tho Industrial Sohool, proved that aooused had only paid £9 10s towards tho support of hM ohildron since July. Acousod, in defence, said that ho had not boon able to pay more, 8* ho had not boon m full work. Mis Worship said, aoousod evidently found money for drink, as ho was then half intor'catcd, and for appearing in suoh a stato before tho Bonoh ho would be looked up for twenty-four hours. Aooused was then removed.
ViOi&BNT ABSAUI.T. — Oharles Dunn answered to a summons for having violently assaulted his wifo, Martha Dunn. Mr O'Noill appeared for complainant, and Mr Thome i for tho defence. The ovidenoo wont to show that accused assaulted his wifo on Wednesday night, giving her a blaok eye, and that tho immediate cause of it was jealousy. It appeared that preliminary stops wore taken some time ago for a separation, but they fell through, and his Worship adjourned tho case until Jan. 13, with a view to affording an opportunity for drawing up a deed of sopaia* tfon. On the termination of tho case, aooused fell down in a fainting .fit, but on being oar* vied outsido and restoratives applied, ho rooovored.
Bigamy.— Arthur Edward Upjohn was brought up on romand, charged with an offence of this nature. The ovidonoe went to show that on July 18, 1869, prisoner we* married by Dr Stuart to Bessie Josephine Tyman at Oaversbara, Otago $ that ho lived with hor some time j and that on Sept. 30, 1874, he was marriod by the Bey Jamcj Buller, Ohristohuroh, to Ellen Welsh, his first wifo being thon alivo. Prisoner was sontonoed to take bis trial at tho noxt session of the Supremo Court.
