In the transformation scene with whioh he used to end one of bia pieces, the flats drew off for the last tableau, and diicovered his daughter and himaelf in apotheosis in the clouds. On one occasion, he waa a little slower than uiual in changing bia drees, and all tbe performer! had taken their stations for the aoene aa be came rushing on with bia daughter to complete the picture, whea, to hia norror, he ditoovend upon tbe elevation wbioh they were to occupy at great gaunt super in dirty tight*, tin armour, and a gilt helmet, already in apotheoata. "What are you doing there, air?" gaaped Peter, aa aoon aa he could fi«d breath.
" Staodin' in a hypothesis," responded the auper, who bad evidently read toe play-bi'la and waa proud of bia poaition. ' " Gome down, you scoundrel ! Come down at once!" ejaoulatsd Peter, who imagined (he man waa obaffing him. " The oaptoin told me to atand here in thia bypothesie," responded the auper, sturdily, with the air of a Boman aentinel ready to die at bis post. " But do you know where you are, air f" abrieked Peter. " Too are in heaven, air— in heaven, and, hang you, air, no one ia allowed there but Caroline and myself— no one !"
