AVON.

The usual meeting of the Road Board took place on Wednesday, Sept. 9. There were preaent the chairman (Mr E. G. Wright), and Messrs Peacock and Dickinson. The Clerk reported the following receipta since last meeting : —From general rate, £192 19a; Waimakariri rate, £18 12a lld j total, £211 11b lld. The Government had paid into the Bank £__5, on account of Provincial grant. The following correspondence was read : — From Mr Blakiston, calling attention to the large stones on the Springfield road. From Mr J. Barker, offering to do certain work on the New Brighton road for £10. — Resolved that the offer be accepted. From Mr Hopkins, offering to repair, and keep in repair for Bix months, a portion of the Now Brighton road. —The offer was declined. From Mr Tucker, asking the Board to remit Mrs Langhorn's rateß, on account of her illness.- Ordered to be remitted. From Messrs Parsons and ofcherß, requesting the Board to do something to Hewitt's road. — Resolved, thafc, upon the whole of tbo road being dedicated, the Board would form it. Mr Lucas called with the contribution (£5) towards forming the footpath in High street. Messrs Spencer and others saw the Board to see what had been done in reference to fche road to the Styx bridge. They were informed that the locality had been visited by the Board, bufc did nofc consider this road suggested would do, bufc that the surveyor, when he had time, would see if a better one could nofc be found. If the parties interested would make arrangements with the owners of some private land, fco take land for the purpose from them ifc would facilitate fche matter. A circular from fche Government, was read, informing the the Board that £445, on account of Provincial grant, had been placed to its credit. Mr Waifce saw the Board, in reference to his contract on fche North road. He was requested to put in writing what he had to Bay, and it would be referred to Mr Walkden. The clerk was directed to write to Mr T. S. Duncan and request him to remove the floodgate, as the rush of water on opening it was injurious to the properties below. Ifc was decided fchat fche Chairman and Mr Peacock should see fche Government with regard to the employment of immigrants for re-forming a portion of the North road, and also in reference to the grant for the New Brighton road. The surveyor was directed to call for tenders for forming the road by Briggs'. Mr Ellen saw tho Board, in reference to the work on Park road having been stopped. The Board directed the surveyor to complete fche work of cutting the drain at once. The surveyor's report was read and considered, and he was directed to invite tenders for formation of a road. Ifc was resolved that the contractors for the Horseshoe Lake cutting be informed that the earth thrown out; must be removed fully three feet further back on both sides, and left with a similar slope to the cutting. Accounts were passed and ordered to be paid to the amount of £338 18s lOd, and the Board adjourned.
