■-■•'■■-" --'-—■ - +— -•— - -^■■--.-»-.-- I .-. The .annual general meeting of members i i.was" held at Warner's Hotel last night. There j was a good attendance, and Mr Wynnj Wiiiiamß (president) occupied, the chair. ! -'.< The "minutes of the previous meeting were: read atfd confirmed. k Mr JE. Si HaHey"; 'hon; isec.'j then read ithe .annual report of the commifcee as follows : — "Owing to :' a variety of causes* -over which your committee had no control,: they? cannot congratulate members on the success of the ganie; during the season under review* neither can they refer with satisfaction to the progreaa made -by the, club during ; the same period/ They think, however, fchafc the want of punctuality in attendance afc matches, and "almost; , total neglect of . practice which preyaiied tbrougbput the seaaon, may be attributed to the difficulty members had in leaving bußiness more than to any lack' of interest in fche game. The aumber ' and quality of firslclaaa matches played Bho ws a sad falling off from ' previous years • but the junior members of the club may be congratulated on their many succeaaeß in the field. They played no leas than fifteen matches, of whiehjonly one waa 'lost and one drawnk Theae aecond eleven matchea are a prominent inafcifcufcion of the, y club, and' your committee hope their Buc'ceaa will continue to encourage them ; for, whilafc they induce indifferent players to practice, they also Berve to bring to the front some promising young player whoee talent might otherwise remain unnoticed. . The advantage of appointing, a second eleven captain haa again been fully confirmed, and the thanka of the club are certainly due to Mr J. H. Wilaon for the indefatigable exertions he displayed throughout; the season in thia capacity. Aoting upon a recommendation from the last annual meeting, the committee invited tendera for theerection of a pavilion — one waa accepted, and the club now possesses a suitable room for the convenience of membera, at a coat; fco the club of £47 3a. For want of funds, your committee were unable to provide lockers and other fittings ao much needed/ but they ' trust there will be no difficulty in having theae supplied before, fche season commences. The arrangements with the U.C.C.C. for the uae" of the ground have given general satisfaction, no, doubt; . similar , terms may be agreed upon for the ensuing season. Your committee take this opportunity, however, of expressing fcheir regret fchafc the wickets provided both for practice and matches were not ao good aa in previous years ; a defect which the TJ.G.0.0. •must also have noticed; and which will doubtless be remedied. Your committee conaider thiaa favourable opportunity for bringing under the notice of ■ members, the great inconvenience and loss sustained by the club in consequence of ihe. practice which obtains of deferring payment bf subscriptions until the end of the season. They recommend the appointment of a paid collector, whose duties shall commence with the' aeaaon. In terms of a resolution paased at a general meeting of the club, held on the 17th July, your committee communicated with the U.C.C.C. on the question of .joint action by the.twp oluba, for the purpose of procuring a profeasional bonder, but nothing come of ifc. Your committee are, however, pleased fco report thafc the. accession of strength which aome new members bring fco fche club renders this desideratum lesa important. The treasurer's statement appended hereto shows that the receipts for" the year, including a balance of £25 16s 8d brought; forward, have been £65 4s 2d, whilafc the expenditure, including cost; of pavilion, haa been £74 sa, leaving a deficit of £9 Os lOd." Mr Harley also read a detailed statement of the accounts of the club. From thia ifc appeared fchafc the receipta during fche past year) including £25 16s 8d brought forward from 1872-3; £39 7s 8d from subscriptions, and £9 Os lOd from overdraft; afc fche Bank, had been £74 sa. And the expenditure, including £40 for the erection of the pavillion, and £20 for the ground being kept in order, had been £74 5s ; alao, that the liabilities, including overdraft; of £9 Oa lOd, amounted fco £22 11a lid, and the aaaeta to £10 10s, leaving a deficit of £12 Is lid. The report and statement of accounts were unanimoualy adopted. •The/rules; of the club, were read by the chairman, with a view to, affording membera an opportunity of considering whether they required any amendment. The rules were unanimously adopted without alteration. . • ; The election of officers for the ensuing year was then proceeded with, and resulted . as follows : Preaident, W. H Wynn Williams j vice-president, J. B. Hill j hon seoretary, Q.
M'lnfcyre* hon treasurer, R. P. Glen; oommittee, J. S. Monck, T. S. Sweete, G. Turner; ' * E. Fowler, ahd J. Fowler. The Chairman thanked fche members for:,*..? having elected him president four times in. succession. He had previously expressed an opinion that it waa desirable to have a change from time to time in the office of president; . ... but the committee aeemed to think otherwise, and thus he had been elected again. He was not able to take an active part in cricket him--'-'.-* self, but he would always be glad to do all he could in other respecta for the good of the club. He desired to point oufc fche necessity for more attention being paid in future to rule 7, which required fchafc members should pfcy" " fcheir subscriptions imme&iately'after election. Non-compliance with ifc laafc year had rendered it necessary for the committee to obtaui an overdraft from fche bank, which he need nofc say- was a very undesirable proceeding. He would also like fco remark upon the fact of the social gathering of the club at'fche end of 'the season ; having been,, discontinued. L >Ttas he - * ' thought, was a mistake, and he. hoped to see the gathering reßum'edk J '(Hear7 hear). He then urged upon the'inembers of the club^the riecessifcy for more punctual and frequent attendance at practice. " - •-! -'■ -~- k A vote of thanks fco the retiring officers waa proposed and unanimously agreed to.
