RICCARTON ROAD BOARD.

A apecial meeting of this Board was held yesterday at the office, Cashel street west. All the members present; Mr G. A. Durey in the chair. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from Mr W. D. Wood, stating that, in the event of the Board clearing out the river from Mr Hanmer's to the Carlton mill, he was prepared to contribute towards the work, if the Board continued it to his mill. — The Surveyor was directed to reply that there was no correspondence before the Board on the subject, and that it did not propose to clear the river. A letter was read from the Templeton Road Board, in reply, agreeing to pay half -cost of forming Donald's road. A letter was received from Mr Petherick, complaining of the surface water standing near his house at Riccavton, and asking the Board to rid him of it. — The Surveyor was directed to give notice to the owner of property adjoining Mr Petherick's to put a tap on his artesian well so as to abate the nuisance. The Board directed the Surveyor to give notice to the parties whoao gorae fences encroached on the public roads to cut and clear the same, and enforco the clause of the Act in reference thereto. A letter was received from Mr Boag, asking the Board to re-consider the proposals contained in his letter of January 9, in reference to certain roads at Fendaltown. A letter was read from the Secretary for Public Works, in reply, thanking the Board for its offer to assist the Government with a view to an amicable settlement of the roads referred to in Mr Boag's letter. The Board having considered the correspondence, the following resolution was proposed : Mr Hall moved, Mr Inwood seconded, and it was carried unanimously — " That a deputation of the members of the Riccarton Road Board wait on the Government, requesting ■ them to take over the roads through Mr Boag's property, and compensate him for them." The Board then adjourned until the Ist of April.
