THE CHILDREN'S ADDRESS TO THE COLONIAL TREASURER.
f, Oh, is it true, sir, kindly say,. That you have taxed our lollies, And that upon some future days 1 You mean to tax our dollies. The thought, sir, makes us- very sad, And shades our simple pleasures; To tax our mixtures is too bad^— Our melting, sugared treasures. Pray tax chignons,.and ladies' hats, And ducks, and geese r and pullets, And chimney pots,. and goats, and cats, And volunteers and bullets. But, pray sir, leave oar sweetened joys, And tax the people's follies, And do not check the girlß and boys From eating cakes and lollies.
