Grl fright), and Messrs Dickensori, Duncan, and Norman. The minutes of the .preyious7meeting were read and confirmed. I The Chairman explained to' the Board the result of his interview with, the. Government regarding the Eiccarton drainage; . . 'The consideration of the matters connected "with the Carlton yards, was again deferred. ! With regard to the site for the Styx bridge, it was settled that Messrs Duncan and Norman should visit the lino .of road suggested by Mr Spencer last meeting as leading to a desirable site. . ■ -W-," . ..'"':. :With respect" to the application, from Messrs Seabright and Steel about the 1 drain on the : belt near Mr Bealey's property, the previous correspondence on "the subject was referred to, and ultimately, on the motion of Mr Dickinson, seconded by Mr Duncan.it was resolved that the Clerk write to the City Council offering to pay half the cost of clearing the drain on the belt. 1 ! iWith regard to St. Albans drain, it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Duncan, seconded by Mr Norman, that the unfinished portion b^et.- !? 0 '~: ; y ::::;y./-. ' " ■ : I A letter, was read from Mr Joynt, respecting the^ Bparli accepting, advice from another solicitor whilst he was solicitor to the Board. It jwasdecided that the Clerk acknowledge its receipt.; \\ -IA communication from the Secretary for Public Works, informing the Board that the sum of £150 had been allocated to this district under the Payment to Provinces Act, 1872 j also, enclosing copy of regulations as to the, mode in which the payments would be made ; also, ah undertaking to bo signed by the Board in connection therewith. >; Another from, the same, respecting the provincial grant to. the Board. ;; j Another, enclosing returns of receipts and expenditure connected with White's bridge, dn answer. The Chairman read the resolution of the Provincial Council referring to the way in which the tolls from the bridge should •be expended. The Board went through the return and discussed the matter. Mr Norman proposed, Mr Duncan seconded, -and it was agreed to — "That the Chairman be requested to communicate with the Provincial Government relative to the expenditure on ■: White's bridge,, and to express the Board's surprise that the large amount of £1591 8s 4d should have been expended in renewals and repairs from the 28th February, 1871, to 27th January, 1873, thereby depriving the Road Board of any revenue from the said bridge, whereas under the resolutions of the Provincial Council, passed tho ; Bth November, 1870, the Board had reason to expect an income of from £200 to £300 annually from that source." . . . • ::• ; ) A letter in reply from tho Union Bank referring to signing tho Board's cheques in consequence of the resignation of Mr Turner. ;; ; The clerk reported that the contractor for shingling Dudley Creek road was not carrying put his contract in a proper, manner, he putting sand.uuder'the shingle. | It was decided that he be informed that before the work is taken off his hands the metalling would be cut across at every half -chain, and if any more sand be found to be filled in beneath the metal he would be required to remove the whole of the present metal, and replace it with clean gravel. | Tenders were opened for the following works : — (1) Keeping North road in repair for one year. (2) Filling in waterholes, &c., on rdad "between M'Bratney's and DoTroy's. ; A.tender was accepted for each work. The Clerk laid before the Board a list of works to be carried out for the current year, with estimates of the cost. Its consideration was deferred till next meeting. Accounts to the amount of £76 9s 8d were passed, and ordered to be paid, and the Board adjourned.
