Wellington, July 30. In- reply to Mr Brown, Mr Eeeves stated that the railway would be extended to the Kowai as soon as the line to Bangiora was completed, which he hoped would be shortly. In reply to Mr Steward, the Government said that they did not deem it advisable to introduce any amendment of the law affecting newspapers or libel. The House has been in Committee on the Public Health Bill all the afternoon. It is understood that the Ministry hare absolutely refused to accede to the demands of the provincial caucus, and that hostile action will consequently be adopted. Mr Reader Wood has given notice of motion expressing the regret of the House at the Government not carrying out the resolution relative to calling Parliament atDunedin. The Hon. H. J. Miller has taken bis seat m a member of the Ministry iv the Legislative Council.
