FUOM SEVERAL BLOKES. Will any Road Board, or other public body, help me ? I've a nice little property close by the Avon, but unfortunately there's a beastly old tumbledown malthouse and disgusting stable at one corner. These are an eyesore to me, and prevent me obtaining a fine view of a pretty reach of the river. They can be got rid of for £350. I'm willing to give £150, I can raise £80 by subscriptions ; if the Government would give £100, or land to tliat value, and the Road Board £20, the amount would be made up, and my property improved at least 50 per cent. Besides, I woidd be able to]add a bit of land to my sylvan retreat. Generous and enlightened public, I Appeal to you. The smallest donations thank - fatly received. v' At Okain Bay, the other day — stop, that ! won't do — Mr Restell dwelt on the Education Ordinance at some length. This is news from the Bays, seeing that the School Inspector has been dwelling, aye living, on Education Ordinances for a decade at least. He gets a frequent change of diet, however, but probably the last Ordinance is difficult of digestion. A gentleman on Victoria bridge assured the Times that he saw hundreds of troufc in the river. On the very identical morning a gentleman assures the Press, &c., &c. Is it to make assurance doubly sure that such fishy coincidences occur in the morning papers ? Does anybody know anything about the present state of postage stamps ? What used to be blue is yellow, and what was yellow is brown. The best plan is to get a lot of browns and stick 'em on till the letter goes. If you go in for various colours you are lost, as your fellow-men can't help you. The Post Office should publish a 'krect card, with the names prices, and colours of the stamps, for outsiders. Go and hear the great Burleybumbo's lower G. Take "The Loafer," or an Italian dictionary ■with ycm. r JClie latter would be best, as you'd get it at first hand. Not being room for more in the Domain when the Band do play, the committee has decided that the pieces shall henceforth be played in the middle of Riccarton Bush. Standing room for the million, with a central position. Contribution to the Museum. — A specimen of Palissy's pottery, cracked. Also, Samian ware, by the same donor, and similarly cracked. The discussion between the black diamonds on the qualities of coal — whether lignite will ignite — is expected to last a fortnight. One, only of the disputants is expected to survive. If the Pilgrim should.come out of the jaw, he will be in (H) articulo lacchi. A Paradox in Domestic Economy. — Burning the candle at both ends is a certain method of making ends meet. It is reported that a political combination is formed to work the oracle with regard to but it's no uso, you can't get any fellow to listen to politics till the hop, skip, and jump, flag and banner business, is over in the Square. It would be a great pity if it should rain to-morrow, but it generally does on Anniversary days.
