♦ [Per Greville's Telegram Company, Reuter's Agents. 1 Napier, April 28, 10.20 a.m. The remains of Captain St. George, buried eight months ago where he fell at Porutu, have been removed to Napier, and were buried in the cemetery yesterday afternoon with military honours. The ceremony began at one o'clock, and lasted till after dark. The whole of the Militia and Volunteer companies turned out, and all places of business were closed during the funeral. A magnificent meteor was observed here afc 10 o'clock last night. Nelson, April 28, 2 p.m. The schooner Twilight, trading to Kaiapara, was lost in the recent gale. Captain Meiklejohn and two seamen were washed overboard. The captain was saved, but the seamen, Peterson and Lewis, were drowned. George Webster, of Hokianga, well known in Auckland commercial circles, died suddenly of apoplexy. Arrangements are being made for a grand reception and luncheon for the officers of the Nevada. The Governor is expected to be present. The Caledonian has lodged in the Bank 1269 ozs. for the week ending April 25, and twenty-five hundredweight of specimens have been taken out. The Inverness is crushing two ounces to tbe ton. The share market on the whole is quiet. Caledonians have sold at £105, Alburnia at 455, Waitemata at 15s, Cures at 12s, Otago at 265, and Moanatairi at 455. News has been received in Sydney of a fearful hurricane at Fiji. Great damage was done in Levuka, also, to the shipping. The new Theatre and other houses were blown down. The total damage done in the town is estimated at £2000. The Zephyr, Kestrel, Black Eagle, and other schooners were driven ashore. The Bteamer Wainui was slightly damaged by a collision. Mr Bailey, formerly a stockbroker in Melbourne, and at one time a representative of Castlemaine, has been murdered by his partner, Henry Scott. Hokitika, April 28, 1.40 p.m. The Zephyr has arrived from Melbourne. The following are the latest market quotations : — Oats, 38 4d to 3s 6d ; wheat, 3s 8d to 3s 9d ; imported potatoes, £4, and no sale, home grown, £5 to £6. Adelaide flour is a •hade easier at £19 to £19 10s ; Canterbury,
£16 10s. Sugars, Company's No. 2, 56s ; Mauritius, 525. Canterbury cheese, s£d to 6d ; butter, prime Wellington, Bd. Dunedin, April 28, 3.45 p.m. Advices from Fiji state that on the morning of March 31 Mr Bailie, late member for Ca6tlemaine,had been murdered with a tomahawk by his partner, Scott. The latter got off with a large amount of property. The dock was pumped out yesterday, when an upheaval, alleged to have been caused by an earthquake, was discovered. It will take two days to repair, but the damage is not serious. Great interest is taken in Eird's match ; the betting is against him. Wheat is 4s 9d ; oats, 2s 4d to 2s 6d; flour, £13 to £!3 10s ; potatoes, £3 ; hay, £4.
