POSTAL NOTICES.
A Late Letter Box has been fixed at the Christchurch Railway Station, in which letters for ship mails, bearing the usual late fee, can be posted until within fire minutes of the departure of the train taking the mails. On and after Monday, the sth Dscember,
mails for Oxford will close at 8 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, returning from Oxford on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, at 4.30 p.m. On and after this date, the rate of postage on letters posted at any office in the colony for delivery from any other office in the colony, is twopence the half ounce. If for delivery at the office at which posted, the rate , is one penny per half ounce
In consequence of the increasing difficulties which attend the transmission through France, addressed via Marseilles, the Post-master-General of London has determined on sending mails so addressed, until further notice, via Brindisi, Brenner, Prussia, and Belgium. The rates of postage to he charged in New Zealand on correspondence for the United Kingdom, via Marseilles or Brindisi, will therefore be as follows :— LETTERS. 8. d. Not exceeding 1 3 Exceeding £oz, and not exceeding loz 2 6 Exceeding loz, and not exceeding ljoz 3 9 And so on, Is 3d for every additional Joz, or fraction of £oz. Newspapers under 4oz each 0 4 BOOK AND PATTERN PARCELS. Not exceeding loz 0 2 Exceeding loz, and not exceeding 2oz 0 4 „ 2oz, and not exceeding 4oz 0 7 7, 4oz, and not exceeding Boz I 2 And so on, at the rate of Is 2d per Jib
