The number of recipients ih tbis class .were 25. Class 2 comprised those whose circumstances appeared to call for greater consideration than those of Class 3, whose losses, though great, were of a less pressing character; the former (Cl-88 2) received 20 per cent., and the latter (Class 3) 10 per cent, on such portion of their several losses as the committee were able to entertain. The number of recipients in Class 2 were 39, and Class 3, 17; making a total of '81 persons receiving assistance. - The Committee, in conclusion, deßire to thank thei Proprietors of the Lyttelton .Times, Press, and the Star fori. the liberality displayed by them in placing so large a space of their respective journals at the disposal of the Committee free of charge, and thus assisting in a material degree tbe munificent contributions placed in the hands of tbe committee for distribution. . > ■ ' ANDREW DUNCAN, Chairman of Committee.
