♦ — : — . CHRISTCHURCH. This Dat. (Before C. C. Bowen, Esq., R.M.) Dbunkenness.-— John Sullivan was proved, on the information of Constable Eares, to have been drunk and disorderly outside the City Hotel yesterday evening, and was fined 10s.— Henry Buckett, arrested by Constable Wilson, was charged with having been drunk and incapable at half-past one o'clock this morning. The evidence not being contradicted, a fine of lOs was imposed. * Bdbolabt. — Walter Johnstone, brought up in custody, was charged with having feloniously broken into & store, and abstracted
certain moneys therefrom. Sergt. Hprniman, stationed at the Ashburton; said, on^Monday, the 19th inst., a report was made to him that the store of Mr D. Middleton; Rakaia, had been broken into, and a £5 note, an order on Grey, Russell, and Co. JEor £4 fis, and some silver 'aDd copper, amounting to about 6s, stolen therefrom. From information received, he went in search of the prisoner. He traced him to Christchurch, and arrested him that morning at the Caledonian Boardinghouse. Prisoner made no reply in answer to the charge. Witness had ascertained that a £5 note had been changed hy the prisoner at the Wheatsheaf Hotel, on the Leeston Boad. Inspector Pender said this was all the evidence the police had ready, and he would ask for a remand, in order that other witnesses might be brought forward. His Worahip acceding to the request, remanded prisoner until Wednesday next.
