METROPOLITAN MEETING.
«■- The meeting opened most successfully today, the lovely weather being largely taken advantage of by these having the requisite time at disposal, and all the racing arrangements as usual being of the best description. A notable addition to them this year was the presence of the Cavalry Band, under Herr Biinz. The racing commenced with creditable punctuality, and up to the departure of our express the following events bad been decided :— Maiden Plate, of 100 soys., added to a sweepstakes of 10 eovs. each h. ft., second horse to save his stake. For all horses that have never won a sweepstakes or plate of the value of 25 soys. previous to starting. 3 yrs, 7st 13lb ; 4 yrs, 9st 51bs ; 5 yrs, 9st Blbs ; 6 yrs and, aged, 9st 9lbs. Distance, \_ miles. Mr Nosworthy's br f Envy, 3 yrs, 7st lOlbs (Richards) 1 Mr Redwood's b f Songstress, 4 yrs, 9st 2lbs (D. Jones) 2 Mr J. Brabazon's eh g Vernon, 5 yrs, 9st 51bs (Ray) 0 Mr Stafford's b g Vulcan, 3 yrs, 7st lOlbs (Mason) 0 Vernon started favourite ; all hard ridden but Envy ; won by three lengths. Time — 2 mm. 52 sees. Lotteby Plate, of 50 soys., added to a sweepstakes of 5 soys. each. 3 yrs, 7st 1 lbs ; 4 yrs, 9st ; 5 yrs, 6 yrs, and aged, 9st 3lbs. Distance, £ mile. Mr Delamain's b m Mies Flat, 5 yrs, 9s t, (Thorpe) 1 Mr R. M. Morten's b g Atlas, 6 yrs, 9st, (Monaghan) 2 Mr M. Studholme's eh g Thoruie, 4 yrs, 8«t llib ... ... ... (-'torey) 0 Mr D. Melville's eh g Lyndon, aged, 9st, (Osborne) 0 Miss Flat started favourite, and won by half a length, without being touched, the others all flogged. Cantebbubt Cop, of 300 soys., added' to a sweepstakes of 20 soys. each, 5 ft., second horse to save his stake. 3 yrs, 7st 4lbs; .4 yrs, 9st ; 5 yrs, 9at 9lbs ; 6 yrs and aged, 9st 11 lbs. Distance, 2£ miles. Mr Redwood's chm Peeress, 5 yrs, 93t 6'bs (Jones) I Mr M. Studholme's eh h Knottingley, aged, 9stlHb (Ray) 2 Mr Stafford's eh g Mariner, 3 yrs, 7st lib (Mason) 3 After the first quarter of a mile Knottingley led. until entering straight for home, when Peeress came away and won by three lengths without being touched, whilst Knottingly was flogged from tbe distance. Time, 4 mm 18 sees.
