LYTTELTON.

(Before W. Donald, Esq., R.M.) Desertion.— William Freeman, a sailor on board the ship Monarch, was charged with this offence. Captain Paddle deposed that the accused, in company with five others, left the ship on Sept. 27, in the ship's longboat, and landed at the head of the bay. The accused was sentenced to eight weeks' imprisonment with hard labour, and the cost of his arrest, 475, was ordered to be deducted from his wages. It was also ordered that he be sent on board at the expiration of his sentence.
