♦ i Napiee, Sept. 27, 5.15 p.m. A large number of "West Taupo Lake Hau-haus, who escaped at the time of the fighting in the Taupo district, have been brought in by Pohipi. They are anxious to 'be employed in road work, are without clothes, and starving. They will be employed. The treaty for the purchase of the Seventy-mile Bush is progressing j favourably. Wellington, Sept. 27, 7.15 p.m. The Governor left for Auckland per Luna to-day. The Government intend to get over the gold duty difficulty by issuing a proclamation under the G-oldfields Act, prohibiting the exportation of gold from Oct. 1 to Dec. 33, except by special permission from the Customs authorities, which will not be given except on payment of the duty.
