DrjNEDiN, Aug. 31, 9.47 a.m. The Provincial Government have received an offer from Captain Audley Coote, Tasmanian agent ot' the English Capitalists' Company (Registered), for the construction of the railway from Dnnedin to Clutha. Captain Coote requires a Provincial guaf&fitee of 6 per cent, for thirty years on the amount expended, with the right of purchase at 12 months' notice after five years — dividing with the Government the nett profits beyond 7 per cent. Wellington, Aug. 31, 7.40 p.m. The whole of the Native and Defence estimates passed, without material alterations. Messrs Gillies and Bunny made a decided protest against the whole system of Native policy, and advocated the abolition of the Native Office, but did not press the matter to a division. y* A long debate took place to-day on M;he question of a vote of £300, for the Botanical Gardens at Wellington. Mr Yogel opposed it very violently, and on the House resolving by 27 to 17 to go into Committee on the matter, he lost his temper, and accused Messrs Bichmond and Rolleston of log-rolling subversive of all parliamentary independence, of canvassing atdinner parties and in other improper ways to carry their point. Mr Eolleston said he would rather have put his hand in his own pocket than have seen a Minister of the Crown make such. an exhibition of himself. Mr Yogel again unsuccessfully divided the House on the question of the Speaker leaving the chair — Ayes, 26; noes, 19. Messrs Pox and M'Lean voted with the majority on each occasion. The discussion in Committee was interrupted by the dinner hour. The Ofcago Hundreds Regulations Act Amendment Bill has passed the Legislative Council. The Council has thrown out the Public Trusts' Bill. The Clio and Galatea sail for Sydney on Saturday.
