PARLIAMENTARY RHYMES.
+ The following, says the Wellington correspondent of a Taranaki contemporary, has been going the round of the House of Representatives, and is supposed to express the sentinlents of the disappointed members of the Opposition:— And why Btands Stafford idly now, Amazement gathering on his brow, Since Yogel gains the votes the while, ••And struggles through the deep defile ? What checks the soul of bold John Hall, ,<Why sits that plucky bird so small, . In action in such need ; And sees from out his fluttering band A Fox with accents sweet and bland, His chicks, seductive lead ? What vails Fitzherbert's cunning wile, Or J. C. Richmond's words like ile ? Oh Creighton for thy lance I Oh for one hour of Reader wight, . > . Or Gillies, skilled to rule the fight. And cry. for Auokland and our r'ght I Another sight would then be seen, If beads were counted well, I ween. -The following is from one of a series of 'rhymes which have appeared in a Wellington paper. They are generally understood to be the work of a Canterbury member :—- --,Npw let us leave theae northern' lights, and ."""'" q glance at Johnny Hall, -The hardest hitter in the house, although he " ~ " is but small ; .,'. Yorkshire cutenesa, not unmindful of the. poll, Now talks of flax and farmers, ani exhibits Malvern coal. How Hall has wprk'd the oracle Provincial records teach, And as .for -dodges — once- he swore that Stafford he'd impeach.
