Thb brig Union, Captain Curphey, arrived off the Heads yesterday, but, owing to light head winds, was unable to come up to an anchorage until this morning. The Union JSft Nelson on the morning of June 14, with a-strong N.S.W. wind ; cleared the Straits the same night ; was off the Kaikoura Peninsula at noon on June 15, when Bhe experienced a heavy gale, the wind varyiag from S.K. to S.W. ; the gale continued for 4 days, then had 12 hours calm, after which a northerly wind set in, with rain and thick weather, which hrought the vessel to the Heads. The Union is chartered to take a cargo of grain to Sydney. The s.s. Airedale arrived in harbour this morning athalf-;ast 12 o'clock. She left Port Chalmers at 4 p.m. yesterday, had light Lead winds and very thick fog throughout the passage. The barque Pet, Captain Burch, arrived off the heads yesterday, but owing to light winds, was unable to make the harbour. She anchored this morning. Captain Burch reports that he left Hobart Town on June 12 ; experienced strong S.W. winds, and rains, which continued till he reached the Snares, which was sighted on Friday last, at noon ; experienced westerly winds up the coast to the Peninsula, which was sighted on Sunday afternoon; thence had light winds and calms. The brig brings a cargo of timber consigned to Mr W. Wilson.
