♦ "Wellington, May 29, 5.15 p.m. The Tricker Defence Committee announced their determination not to cease their efforts till a free pardon was granted. The Wanganui News says that a general meeting is to be held at Paribaka, on Sep. 18, by Te Whiti and Tohi. Messengers have been sent to all parts of the island. The object of the meeting is to re-establish a general peace. Te Whiti says that Taranaki commenced the war and Taranaki must end it. Naiiee, May 29, 5 p.m. The Comerang has arrived. His Excellency reviewed the Auckland Colonial Forces on the Queen's Birthday, held a levee in the afternoon, and gave a ball in Government House in the { evening. Lady Bowen, who is suffering from severe indisposition, was unable to be present. Mrs Yogel presented the prizes to the volunteers in the place of Lady Bowen. Lieut* Morrow obtained the silver vase. Te Eanapia Bahakute has stopped all further progress of the Telegraph works at Tauranga, the reason assigned being that it was erected through their plantations. The p. s. Luna, with the Hon. Defence Minister, arrived at Poverty Bay yesterday evening. ' ■ , ,
