The quarterly meeting of the Chamber of Commerce was held at 3 p.m. yesterday. Mr Inglis presided, and the other members present were Dr Foster, and Messrs Macpherson, Lane, Beaufort, C. B. Taylor, Bird, D. Davis, Hassal, Wilson, Montgomery, Warner, Craig. Walton, Curtis, Hennah, and Hart. Mr E. C. J. Stevens was elected a member of the Chamber. The chairman said that the sub-committee appointed to draw up a report on the subject of the bankruptcy laws had met several times, but had not as yet been able to arrive at a final conclusion. Dr Poster gave a resume of the proceedings of the sub-committee, and moved that the subcommittee be re-appointed, with the addition of the name of Mr Curtis, the committee to report at a special meeting to be convened for the purpose. Mr Walton seconded the motion, which was agreed to, and the meeting terminated. Bankruptcy. — His Honor Mr Justice Gresson sat in Chambers this morning. — Re Thomas and Edward Pavitt : Mr J. S. Williams applied for an order declaring the complete execution of the deed of assignment, ilis Honor acceded to the application, but the order must not be signed for ten days. Thkatre Royal. — The management departed from their established line of business last night, by substituting the drama for burlesque ; but we cannot quite agree with the change. An occasional alteration is no tloubfc very desirable, but judicious selection Should be made in the. class of pieces thus ;iaken up. . Whilst being above the average in burlesque performances, the company are not* equal to many demands upon them in :».- dramatic. sense. "Under the Gaslight," although depending: largely upon scenic effects and exciting incidents for its success, has still much claim to dramatic merit, and is decidedly unsuited to the constitution of the present company. , As represented last night, it was far from effective, excepting in the scenic arrangements which had been prepared by Mr Willis with his wonted skill, and were loudly applauded. The cast was anything but good, the only characters in which we could find- much to approve being those of Laura, and Pearl Courtland, sustained, respectively, 'by Miss Mathews aud Miss Nye. "The .conception of the former character was unquestionably good, and, so far as Miss Mathews could make it, was a success. Miss Forde, as Bermudas^ Vwe certainly did not like, not so much from a want of success in personating the pre cociou3 street Arab, as from its total unsuitability to her natural talent. The piece Trill Le repeated this and to-morrow evenings.

The price of season tickets is reduced to 7s 6d for ggptlemen, and 5s for ladies. ■kTAccident. — A severe accident occurred to od-^of Mr Bruce's children, in Gloucester street, on Wednesday afternoon. Mr R. Chudley was driving a spring trap, when the child ran across the street, and before he could prevent it, was knocked down and run over.
