The return match between the Ka'apoi and " Times" clubs also came off on Saturday, in Latimer Square. During the early part of the game the weather was all that could be desired, but during the afternoon the heavy north-wester carried clouds of dust across the Square, and rendered it exceedingly difficult for the men to play. A moderate wicket had been obtained by watering and rolling the ground the previous evening, but the fielding was very difficult, owing to the dryness of the grass. The " Times " team was seriously crippled by Poore not being able, to play, but Mr A. Ashbolt, of the Press office, kindly supplied his place. Kaiapoi won the toss, and elected to send in the " Times " men who ran up the score to 103 before ending their first innings. Some very good play was exhibited, the most noticeable being Ashbolt's 31, which consisted of five threes, six twos, and singles. After a short interval, the Kaiapoi men sent in Messrs F. Barker and Revell to the bowling of East and Ellis.; they were soon parted, and with the exception of C. Barker, none of tbe team made any stand, their innings closing for. 50. In the second innings the " Times " made another very good score of 83 ; Ashbolt again playing well fer his 36 not out. With 137 to make up, it did not look as if there was much chance of the Kaiapoi men winning, but they went in with a will, and the bowling and fielding of their opponents getting very loose, they managed to run up the requisite score, with the loss of nine wickets, thereby claiming their second victory over the " Timeß " club. The game terminated at 7 o'clock. During the second innings of the Kaiapoi men, some

good free hitting was displayed by Messrs C. Barker and-Hurae, the score of the former including-^three fours, three threes, seven twos and singles ; and that of the latter, one four, six threes, five twos, and singles. The Rev. E. A. Lingard and Mr Calvert acted as umpires during the match. Between the first and second innings, at the invitation of the " Times " club, the Kaiapoi men sat down to an excellent luncheon, provided by Mr Green, at CollinsV Hotel. ..The .following .are the respective scores : — Lyttelton Times.
