THE BRINDISI ROUTE.

Increased attention is being directed to the BjHndisi route to and from India. On the morning of .'-Saturday, the 13th of November Bombay papers were received hy this route'to thb 23rd ult., in anticipation of the Marseilles

mail. The letters by the Peninsular and Oriental Company's steamer Delhi did not leave Marseilles until Saturday morning, and therefore were not delivered io London till the following Monday morning. In connexion with the superiority of the Brindisi route, which is thus demonstrated, it is interesting to iearn that a company is in course of formation, under very respectable auspices, for carrying out a concession for the exclusive privilege of constructing docks at Brindisi, to accommodate the trade of the East. " Miort-cut," in The Times of the 21st ult, gave the result of the first month's experiments connected with the conveyance of our extra India mail via Brindisi. The average length of the journey Letween London aud Alexandria was about six days, the ordinary time via Marseilles being seven days and eight hours. But for the wilful delay of the English mail iv Paris for a period of 14 hours, the Brindisi route would effect a saving of about 44 hours : while the opening of the Mont Cenis tunnel next year will afford the further advantage of an additional eight hours, so that the whole journey between London and Alexandria, via Brindisi, will be reduced to something short of five days.
