Nelsow, Eeb. 3, 11.20 a.m. Auckland dates are to Feb. 1. On the night of Jan. 31, says a telegram from Hamilton, (Waikato) Colonel M'Donnell's scouts fell in with the enemy, killing one and making one prisoner. The militia have arrived at the front. Colonel M'Donnell's force is amply sufficient to cope with Te Kooti. Colonel Eraser's force will, it is expected, effect a junction with that of Colonel M'Donnell. Eive of Te Kooti's followers were killed in an attack on Tepapa Camp. Kemp captured a pah, with over 100 horses. The prisoners report that Te Kooti is over 200 strong. At a Jcorero with Te Hira, and many influential chiefs of the Upper Thames district, it is believed that favourable progress was made towards opening up the Ohinemuri country. Mr Puckey, an interpreter, warned Wi Koko not to meddle with the miners, or they would fight. He also told hira that there were 22,000 men on the Thames. Well-informed people consider that the whole of the Upper Thames country will shortly be opened up.
