About three months ago some very promising specimens of quartz were taken out of the Company's workings, and submitted, through the Government, to Dr Hector, who spoke very favourably of the indications they presented. A like favourable opinion was expressed by Dr Haast, to whom they were shown. From that date the Company has carried on operations on a moderate scale. A telegram was yesterday received from the Bluff, on the arrival of the Tararus, reporting that gold has been found in payable quantities in a bag of the quartz that had been taken to Melbourne by one of the prospectors to be crushed. The Company now determine to carry on the works on a larger scale than hitherto, and invite the publ'c to take shares. One thousand share 9 , of a pound each, are thus offered. The remainder of the shares unallotted (with the exception of 318 paid up and heltl by the ] resent shareholders) are reserved, Mith the intention that they shall hereafter bt first offered to existing shareholders, at the date of distribution pro rata.
