WESLEYAN SCHOOL, LYTTELTON.
— «■ The annual examination of the scholars took place on Tuesday evening, in the Wes leyan School. The scholars were examined by the Rev. A. Reid, and showed great proficiency in their studies His Worship the Mayor and several of the Borough Councillors were present, as were also many of the parents of the scholars. The Council's prizes were distributed by Mesdames England and Allwright; those of the School
Committee by Mr Borthwick, master. The following is a list of the prizes: — list of prizes given ry the council. First Class. — General proficiency, Bible knowledge, and good conduct : J. M. Chambers. Writing, Arithmetic, and Dictation: K. F. England. Arithmetic, Spelling, and Geography: G. W. Jenkins. Second Class. — General proficiency and Bible knowledge: Ist, E. Jenkins; 2nd, J. B. Borthwick. Third Class. — General proficiency: Ist, J. A. Brown; 2nd, H. Hewstone. Fourth Class. — Reading, Spelling, and Tables: M. A. Borthwick. Arithmetic: E. England. " given by school committee. First Class. — Good conduct : Ist, A. Atkinson ; 2nd, A. Hester. Second Class.— Heading and Spelling : E. Barton. Arithmetic and Writing: Ist, W. Wishart ; 2nd, J. Messiter. 1 hired Class.— Heading, Writing, &c. : 3rd, M. A. Bradley ; 4th, A. Bryant. Fourth Class (second part). — Reading, Spelling, and Good Conduct : Ist, E. Bennett ; 2nd, Wm. Hewstone. Reading, Spelling, and Arithmetic : 3rd, T. Foull. Fourth Class (first part). — General proficiency in Heading and Spelling, and Good Conduct : 2nd, C. Wood. Fourth Class (third pnrt) — "Reading nnd Spelling -. Ist, J. Bradley ; Special, B. Foull. At the conclusion, His Worship expressed his great pleasure at being present. The examination was very creditable to them, and reflected great credit on the master. The Rev. A. Reid returned thanks for the prizes presented by the Borough Council to the school.
