"Wellington, Dec. 14, 7.44 p.m. The Government have arranged for the Tararua to leave here, at noon, on the 23rd December, and Nelson on the 24th, to catch the mail at Melbourne — subsidy £200. Napier, Dec. 14, 6.34 p.m. Information has been received from Colonel McDonnell that he has moved up the west side of Taupo Lake, and Major Roberts on the north side, to cut off Kooti's retreat. Colonel McDonnell has received news from Kemp and Topia that they are on their way with 400 Wanganui natives to attack Kooti.
