The Mohaka natives are scouting, and haviDg discovered the Hau-haus' camping ground they followed the tracks. One scout has been missing for four days, and a party started yesterday in search of him. Nelson, Dec. 9, 7.5 p.m. The land sales at "Wangapeka are still unsettled, tbe diggers standing out and refusing to allow a survey. Mr "Warden Broad sent surveyors, who were stopped by the miners and pushed back by one Noble. A warrant was issued for the apprehension of Noble on the charge of assaulting the surveyors, and the police went to apprehend him, but he was protected by the diggers, and the police had to return. No violence was offered, but the miners express a determination to hold the land. Mr Domett, Chief Crown Lands Commissioner here, has been instructed by the General Government to enquire as to matters set forth in a petition signed by seven hundred miners and inhabitants, and as to the validity of the sales ; also, whether the land is within the proclaimed boundary of the South-West goldfields. The state of affairs is considered critical, and in the meantime the progress of the place is arrested.
