Upon the. reading of the Declaration of Independence at Ypsilmti, Michigan, by a citizen of that place, a gentleman from the rural districts made this comment: " Oh, he read it well enough ; but darned if I believe he wrote it." A Scotch minister told his neighbour that he spoke two hours and a half on the Sunday previous. " Why, minister, were you not tired to death ? " asked the neighbour. " I was as fresh as a rose; but it would have done your heart {jood to see how tired the c .ngregation was."
