CANTERBURY GOLD PROSPECTING COMPANY— ( LIMITED.)

o^^ A meeting of the shareholders in this company was held last evening at Boot's Assembly Room?, High street, Mr. J. Ollivier iv the chair. Then were thirty- three shareholders present, representing 41 shares. The Chairman, in opening the proceedings remarked that the meeting had been called for the purpose of adopting one of two propositions, viz.: — Ist. " The desirability of continuing the operations of the company, und directing a further call to be made." 2nd. " That the company be forthwith wound up." Mr H. A. Davis moved that the company he at once wouod up, remarking that as affairs were iv such a very unsatis factory state, he thought it would be unwise to spend any more money. Mr i<. 0. Clarke seconded the motion. Mr Crowley asked whether nny statement of accounts bad been prepared. The secretary replied that the company owed about £26 for advertising, &c., and that they had assets amounting to £70, including unpaid calls, horse.", tents, and tool p. The chairman observed that before putting the motion to the meeting he would avail himself of the opportunity to say a few words. lie was not at all sorry that the proposition to wind up had been made, as he thought that under the circumstances it would be the wisest course to pursue. It was quite clear that no good could result from any attempt to carry on, when a large body of the shareholders refused to pay the calls. He thought it much better to wind up at once, while they had a small balance to divide amongst the sharer holders, and then those who were really in earnest in the matter might unite together to continue the search for gold in Canterbury, a3 he (the chairman) wa3 still of opinion that they would eventually be successful. He then put the motion, which was carried unanimously. Mr Calvert senior stated that it would be impossible to wind up the company until outstanding calls had been i aid, and requested that shareholders who had uot paid would do so at once. There were calls still due on S4 sh.ras. The meeting then terminated with the usual vote to the chairman.
