The s.s. Lord Ashley, Captain Wheeler, arrived in harbour to-day at 12.30 p.m. from Bunedin. the will sail for Northern ports to-morrow. The s.s. Wellington, Captain Holmes, arlived in harbour at 11 o'clock this morning irora Dunedin, which port she left at 4.35 yui. yesterday. Experienced fine weather throughout the passage. Messrs M'Meckan, Blackwood and Co.'s Kjxt steamer, after the Omeo, was advertised to leave Melbourne for New Zealand, via Hokitika, on Nov. 10. She is, therefore, due . on Monday or Tuesday next. Thk barque Adeline Burke, Capt. Blake, arrived in harbour yesterday afternoon from N.^.W., having left that port on ihe 18th Sept.; experienced southerly and south-east winds -o the Solander, which was made on the Ist iust.; had to run round to the southward of tewart's Island, and made l>tago Heads on the 7th; received orders to proceed to Lyttelton, and met with strong northerly winds until she brought up off Syttelton Heads on the 11th. During the passage she spoke the American whaling fcarque Minnesota, with 460 barrels sperm oil, and 140 barrels whale oil. All well. The lighthouse at the Nuggets is, says the 3Port Molyneux correspondent of the Bruce Herald, approaching completion. The works Inspector, Mr Crawford, thought it advisable to take four feet more from the foundation 'than was shown on the plan, so as to have a ' souud bottom for the lighthouse to stand Bpon. The stone buildings are of a very - solid and substantial character. The light- ; ftonse, from its peculiar position, will be subjject to the fearful gusts of wind and rain which occasionally come fom the north aud aorth-east; but the works appear to be of such strength as to defy any tempest to overturn them.
