DIOCESAN SYNOD.
Thobsdat, Toy. 11. The Synod re-assembled at 4 p.m. ORPHAN ASYLUM. The Rev. Canon Cotteiull laid on the table the report of the sub-committee with regard to the Orphan Asylum, which was read and received. CBURCH PROPERTY TRUST FUND. The Rev. F. Knowlks moved — " That the balance of .£IOO from the Church Property Trust Fund for the year ending 30th Sept., | 1869, reserved for the Home Mission Fund,! shall be brought to the credit of that Fund,'
and may be applied, if required, for the passage and outfit of a Missionary Clergyman or clergymen, or for any other object of the Fund." The motion was agreed to. FINANCIAL REGULATIONS. The Rev. R. S. Jackson moved the first reading of the following amendments on Fiuancial Regulations : — l. That instead of the word " four "in the third line of the in troduetory clause, be substituted the word "two." 2. That the words "forthe stipend of the Minister," be struck out in the second clause. 3. That clauses 3 and 4be expunged 4. That the word " Diocese " be substituted for the words " Canterbury Block " in the second clause of Section 11. 5. That the words " when possible " be inserted between the word " shall " and the word "be" in the fourth clause of the same section, and the word " Diocese " substituted for the words " Canterbury Block." 6. 'that clause 5 be expunged. 7. That the following be substituted for clause 6 — " That the stipend payable from this fund to each clergyman having charge of any cure in the Diocese shall be £260 where there is no Parsonage, and £210 where there is a Parsonage." 8. That in clause 7 the word " establish " be substituted for the word " assist " the word " their" for the word " the " before " resources," and the words " of the Church Property Trust Fund and the Assisted Parishes Fund " be struck out. 9. That in clause 2 of section 111, the words " their Minister or Ministers " be struck out, and the words " the Ministry " substituted. 10. That in clause 3, all the words after " if need be " i be struck out, and the following substituted ' " to withdraw the ministrations of the clergyman in whole or in part from such cure." 11. That clause I of section V. run as follows — " On the first Sunday in every month, the offertories and collections in all parishes and parochial districts throughout the diocese shall be devoted to the maintenance of the ministry of the diocese." 12. That clause 2 be expunged, and the following substituted — " That in all parishes and parochial districts the offertories and collections shall be devoted on one Sunday in the year to the Melauesian Mission, and on one Sunday to the Diocesan Maori Mission." 13. That section VIII. read as follow — "These regulations shall come into force at the commencement of the next financial year." 14. That the classification of parishes and districts be amended in accordance with the above resolutions." In moving his amendments, Mr Jackson pointed out that his object was to have one general fund instead of several ns at present. If the plan which he proposed were carried into effect, he believed it would ensure greater unity of action in the Church generally. After some discussion, Mr Jackson obtained leave to withdraw his amendments, on the suggestion of the Very Rev the Dean. CHURCH OF ENGLAISD ORPHANAGE. Mr Hawkes moved, " That in the opinion of this Synod, it is desirable that in the event of the Government withdrawing the children placed by them in the Orphan Asylum, every effort should be used to continue the institution as a Church of England orphanage." The Rev Canon Cotterill suggested that words to the following effect should hz added: — " That the Standing Committee be authorised until next session to act for the Synod in any necessary arrangements that may have to be made with the Government with reference to the Orphan Asylum and the establishment of a Church of England Orphanage." The motion, so amended, was agreed to. orphan asylum committee. The following were elected for the ensuing year : — Canons Cotterill and Wilson, Dr Deamer and Mr Hawkes. cathedral square. »The Very Rev the Dean of Christchurch moved " 1. That a select committee be appointed to confer with the City Council, or any committee thereof, with a view of ascertaining more exactly the wishes of the Council with regard to the road through Cathedral square, and to report to the Synod during its present session. 2. That the committee do consist of the Bey Canon Wilson, Messrs J. 5. Williams, P. Hanmer, and the movefy The first portion of the resolution was agreed to. • The names of Dr Deamer, Messrs Rhodes, and Hamilton were added to the Committee, on the suggestion of Dr Donald. ENDOWMENT FUND. Mr Gordon moved—" That the Church Property Trustees.be requested to lay before the Synod a return of all suras received by them towards 'An Endowment Fund,' in each parish." The Rev Canon Cotterill 'said that no such sums had been received by the Church Property Trustees. The motion was therefore unnecessary.. Mr Gordon obtained leave to withdraw the resolution. CHURCH FEEB. The amendments upon Church fees were re-committed, reported, and adopted. CLERICAL PENSION FUND. On the motion of the Rev Canon Cotterill, the Synod went into Committee on the amendments on regulations on the Clerical Pension Fund, already printed. The amendments were reported to the Synod and adopted; and the Synod adjourned.
