♦ Wellington, Nov. 5, 7.40 p.m. la the Court of Appeal, in the case of Regina v. Macandrew (Princes street reserve), the judgment of the Court below in favour of defendant was confirmed. Mr Allan, on behalf of the Natives, applied for leave to amend declaration. The Court advised him to reconsider before pressing the declaration. Napieb, Nov. 5, 3 p.m. Mr M'Lean left Auckland on Nov. 3 for the Waikato, in order to hold an interview with the Maori king. He was accompanied by Colonei Eraser and a Native interpreter. The Southeiw Cross has declared in favour of Mr Williamson's re-election to the Superintendency. The Cross takes Mr Gillies to task for having j said that he thought the Auckland Press had been " bought M by Mr Williamson. It gives him the lie direct. >^Mr Gillies has recently addressed several meetings. In a circular to the electors living in the country districts, he says : — " I ask you not to be misled by the abuse and misrepresentation of the Auckland Preas. It would not do for them to quarrel with their liberal patrons in Government advertisementH/^ 1 Mr Williamson's return is not considered so certain. Te Pokiha has written to Mr L M'Lean, requesting him to stop illegal
prospecting in the Ohinemuri district where, report says, rich gold-bearing quartz has been struck by prospecting parties. The Long Drive has paid a dividend of £3 ; 207 lbs of specimens gave a yield of 915 oza. The Golden Crown returns are 2000 ozs for the past fortnight. The Pride of Karaka has paid a dividend of Is. The Cure claim has yielded some good specimens. The Golden Crown (Puriri) gives 2\ oz9 to the ton. The s.s. Phoebe, and the barque Novelty left Sydney for Auckland on Nov. 1, and the IVonga "Wonga on Nov. 2. "
