Wellington, Oct. 7, 7.30 p.m. Mr Ormond telegraphed to the Government to-day, recommending that the Kaitnanawa district should be opened to prospectors, Kooti being defeated. : The Commissioners do not go to England till December. A portion of the cargo of the Taranaki was sold at auction to-day. The packages were all opened up, aud fair prices realised. Napier, Oct. 7, 5.55 p.m. T^-Colonel McDonnell, on Monday morning, with European and Native forces attacked Kooti's position at Iwituroa, a wooded hill, north of 3Jotoaira lake. He stormed the pah, took it, and killed 35 of the enemy, besides wounding several. The loss on our side was : — Killed, Capt. St. George, 2 Wangauui natives, and 2 vvouuded. When his despatch left, Colonel McDonnell was following Kooti, who is supposed to have fled towards the source of the "Wanganui River.
