LATEST FROM THE THAMES.

-» The following items are taken from the Auckland papers received this morning: — Bleezard's machine crushed fifteen tons of stone from the Telegragh reef, which gave a return of 18oz of retorted gold. We understand that a sample of stone from Coromandel, taken from Morgan's prospector's claim, has been tested here, and that 88oz of stone gave a yield of about 6840z to the ton. Some specimens of a very good description were brought to our office yesterday afternoon from the Young Australian Claim, on the Karaka. The lode from which they were taken is about two feet in thickness. In the Flora Macdonald yesterday a very rich leader was struck, and specimens which I have seldom seen excelled taken out. This leader is supposed, and not without reason, to be leading directly into the Pride of the Karaka. Operations in the Imperial Crown are being pushed on most vigorously. Already they have a portable engine on the ground, and the poppet heads are . in a forward state, so that the winding and pumping gear can be fixed immediately. The specimen crushing for the Pride of the Karaka Claim was completed at a late hour on Wednesday, and with a capital result, as far as the amalgam shows. The quantity of stone crushed was under 65lb, and the amount of amalgam obtained from it is 268£0z. A quantity of stone from the Erin's Hope. Gold Mining Company was yesterday being taken to Goodall's battery. The stone has

been taken from the various reefs known to exist in the ground, and the present* test is looked forward to with no small amount of interest. Information of a Very promising character reached town on Wednesday from the Sunbeam Claim, situated at the head of Tinker's Gully. In the Drive which ia being put in at a low level, a larga lode was met, and etone in which the gold could plainly be seen was taken out. The rich find made in the Circular Saw No. 2 ground, Rolleston street, a few days back, has created quite a sensation in that locality. Oq Wednesday, a large number of persons assembled in the neighbourhood of the Star Hotel, and fourteen men's ground was pegged out adjoining the new claim. A parcel of Bcwt of stone from the Harbour View Claim, Coromandel, has been crushed in the single stamper of the Prince Alfred battery, from which over an ounce of fine-quality gold had been obtained. We inspected a very fine piece of specimen stone from Morgan's Claim, Coromandel, taken out of the leader recently opened in that claim. The Evening Star, Waiotahi Creek, has been producing some very beautiful specimens, the stones being of pale blue and the gold flaky, looking as if it had been manufactured into leaves by a jeweller and stuck all over the stone. The shareholders have a considerable quantity of specimens on hand. The new patch was struck this morning, and gold is very rich in colour. A splendid parcel of amalgam was brought into town to-day, the result of a crushing of stone for the Colleen Bawn, at the Halcyon Company's battery. About 22 tons have been put through, and this amalgam (140ozs — very fine sample) has been taken from the plates alone, the stamper boxes not having been cleaned out yet. A new leader was opened in the Colleeu Bawn to-day, three feet thick, composed of mullock and blue quartz, which shows evidence of getting more solid the lower it is cue, Amongst the many claims on which work has lately been resumed on the Waiotahi Creek, is the Bachelors' Gold Mining Company, on which operations were recommenced on Monday last. A shaft nine feet by three feet six inches has been commenced at a low level, from which it is intended to put in a drive to cut a very promising leader, which has been met in a drive higher up on the spur on the right-hand side. From this leader 20ozs of retorted gold was taken same time back from lOOlbs of stone, and the average has yielded 2J-OZ3 to the ton. Perhaps no claim on the Thames gold field has lately more largely engros ed public attention than the Pride of the Karaka. The leader has been traced from the surface, and two drives at different levels put in on it, in both of which it has been found to run nearly north and south. Wherever it has been traced it has been found to average abtfut two feet in thickness. A very large quantity of atone is out, the crushing of which will no doubt prove that the general stuff will yield a capital average after the specimen stuff has been taken out. Quite an excitement was caused in town to-day by another find of rich stone in the City of Glasgow's ground. Some fresh men were put on yesterday. They commenced throwing everything out of the drive on to a heap of ordinary quartz, stacked ready for crushing. The manager, Mr Sweetman, on taking some stone from the heap, found that it was impregnated throughout with gold of exceeding richness, quite equal to the stone lately exhibited from the Long Drive. It appears the new lode comes direct from the Junction Goldmining Company's ground, and swells the. present leader, which they have lately worked upon to more than two feet in width.
