LYTTELTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Monday, Aug. 30. The Council met at the usual hour. Present — Councillors England, Allwright, Ward, Hawkins, his Worship the Mayor presiding. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Clerk informed the Council that he had received during the week — rates and rents, £19 10s. The correspondence was read : — To Mr M. B. Hart, jvm., acknowledging, with, thanks, the receipt of his pamphlet on mining laws. From Messrs J. T. Curtis, J. A. Morgan, and Cameron Brothers, stating that they intended to appeal against the new assessment. It was resolved to ask the Resident Magistrate to fix the day of hearing the appeals after the 9th September. The following accounts were passed for payment:— J. Forrester, £4 3s 9d; weekly pay-sheet, £6 2s; Town Clerk's salary, £16 13s 4d. Mr W. Graham, town scavenger, was in attendance, and addressed the Council respecting the night-soil road, which was dangerous to his horse and cart. One accident had occurred, and unless the road was seen to, he would be obliged to give up the work. It was resolved, on the motion of Councillor Ward, seconded by Councillor Hawkins, that the Works Committee see to the matter. The Council then adjourned.
