The Thnant Herald in an extra just published, cautions people not to rush to the ground, and aays that the fact remains to be proved whether the ground will pay to work. The prospectors themselves say it is poor. Some old diggers, who have examined the prospecb brought down, declare that the ground will not pay to work.

Mr Curtis to-day moved that Mr Eox's letter to Major Brown was a breach of privilege. A long and very warm debate ensued, when the Government declared that they accepted the motion as a party one, and made it a Government question. The motion was negatived by 29 to 27. ' The Defence estimates were passed last night unopposed. Mr M'Lean said that the Government would call the House together when the £150,000 was spent, unless the House to avoid meeting earlier than uaual liked to give a contingent vote of £50,000.

90 Friendly Natives left Takapau yesterday to reconnoitre Kooti's position at-Patea. Henare Totnoana leaves to-morrow with 120, for the same place. The Natives have arrived from Poverty Bay on their way to Wellington, to give evidence against the Native prisoners.

Grilroy's boats caught a small black whale in the Straits this morning. It will yield about four tuns of oil.
