ARRIVED,
Aug. 26— Mavis, schooner, Palmer, from Charleston.
Aug. 26— Princess Alice, brig, Cleary, from Newcastle, en route for Timaru, with cargo coals.
The brig Fawn Hauled in to the "Railway Wharf this morning, to discharge her inward cargo.
The brig Princess Alice, Capt. Cleary, arrived at the Heads and anchored this morning. She is from Newcastle, and bound for Timaru ; Capt. Cleary merely calling here for orders.
The schooner Ifavis, Capt. John Palmer, arrived in harbour from Charleston on Wednesday evening ; left that port on the 14th inst..; had strong westerly breezes as far as Cape Campbell ; on rounding the Cape, met .with a strong S.E. gale, and put back into Fort Underwood ; 7eft there on the 2 1st, had light northerly winds and calms up to at rival. Capt. Palmer informs us that a heavy sea rolled into Charleston harbour on the 3rd, and continued for eight days, doing great damage to the shipping lying there ; the Mavis was thrown on her beam-ends, her rudder and jib-boom were carried away, and nearly all her copper stripped off ; the schooner Mary Jane, of Nelson, was driven on to the rocks, and became a complete wreck ; many of the surf boats belonging to the port were stove in, and all were more or loss damaged.
