CHAPLAINCY i OP THE 1 CHRISTCHURCH HOSPITAL, GAOL, j AND j LUNATIC ASYLUM. 1 A COMMITTEE has been formed for the \ purpose ot raising funds for the main- i tenance of a Chaplain of the Christchurch y Hospital, Gaol, and Lunatic Asylum. It j seems hardly necessary to dwell on the extreme importance of providing regular Spiri- . tual ministrations for the inmates of these j institutions ; and these it is impossible to se- 1 cure, except by the appointment of one Clergy- j man responsible for, and able to give his j whole time to these duties. Those who are ] blessed with health of mind and body, and ] are for the most part, by education and eir- ■ cumstances, placed beyond the temptation to 1 the commission of crime, cannot better show their thankfulness for these blessings, than by ( helping to make provision for the Spiritual wants of the Patients, Criminals, and Lunatics in our public institutions. It is earnesly hoped that nothing may prevent Christians of every communion, and all benevolent persons, ma. joining in this charitable work. It is proposed that an Annual Stipend of not less than £300 should be provided ; of which amount the Church Property Trustees will contrbute £50 annually. The appointment of the Chaplain will rest with the Bishop of Christchurch. Subscriptions and donations are earnestly solicited towards this object. The following is the list of subscribers up to the present date. Subscription lists are lying at all the Banks, and at the office of Messrs. Miles aud Co. By order of the Committee, HENRY JACOBS, .
