CHAPLAINCY OF THE CHRISTCHURCH HOSPITAL, GAOL, AND LUNATIC ASYLUM. A COMMITTEE has been formed for the purpose ot raising funds for the maintenance of a Chaplain of the Christchurch Hospital, Gaol, and Lunatic Asyluiu. It seems hardly necessary to dwell on the extreme importance of providing regular Spiritual ministrations for the inmates of these institution* ; and these it is impossible to secure, except by the ajipointment of one Clergyman responsible for, and able to give his whole time to these duties. Those who are blessed with health of mind and body, and are for the most part, by education and circumstances, placed be) - ond the temptation to the commission of crime, cannot better show their thankfulness for these blessings, than by helping to make provision for the Spiritual wants of the Patients, Criminals, and Lunatics in our public institutions. It is earnesly hoped that nothing may prevent Christians of every communion, and all benevolent persons, 'os; joining in this charitable work. It is proposed that an Annual Stipend of not less than £300 should be provided ; of which amount j the Church Property Trustees will contrbute £50 annually. The appointment of the Chaplain will rest with the Bishop of Christchurch. Subscriptions and donations are earnestly solicited towards this object.
