Mkssks M'Meckan, Blackwood and Company's steamers were advertised to leave Melbourne as follows: —Gothenburg, June 19, via Bluff; Alhambra, June 24, via Hokitika ; Tararua, June 28, via Bluff. Tiik s.s., Phoebe, Captain Wheeler, arrived in harbour yesterday at 10.15 a.m., with the English mail, transhipped ex Rangitoto at Wellington ; left Manukau at 4.45 p.ra. on the Sth, and arrived at Taranaki at 6.45 a.m. on the 9th ; left again at 2.15 p.m, and arrived at Nelson at 6.20 a.m. on the 10th ; left again at 9.30 a.m on the llth, arrived at Picton at 6.30 a.m. same day ; left at 5 a.m. on tbe 12th, arrived at Wellington at 10.50 a.m. same day, and left again at 3 p.m. on the 17th, arriving as above. We are indebted to Mr Hamlyn, purser, for full files. The Phoebe sailed for Dunedin at 4 p.m. The s.s., Rangitoto, Captain Mackie, arrived iv harbour yesterday at 10.25 a.m., from Wellington ; left Hob.-on's Bay on the Bth inst at 2.20 p.m ; passed Kent's Group on the Sth at 7.45 a.m., and arrived off Hokitika on tbe 15th at 6 a.ra ; left again at 3 p.m., and arrived at Wellington at 5.40 p.m. on tbe 16th ; left at 5 10 p.m., on the 17th, arriving as above From Melbourne to Kent's Group, experienced light winds and fine weather ; from thence to Hokitika strong S S.E. gale. In consequence of a heavy head sea running in, did not anchor off Hokitika until 11 a.m. on the 15th ; at 1.35 pm. the s.s. Waipara came out and made an attempt to reach the steamer, but owing to the wind and sea both being against her, did not succeed,
and as the wind was increasing, the anchor was hove up, and tho Rangitoto proceeded on the voyage to Wellington. Thence had light winds and fine weather. We are indebted to Mr Longficld, purser, for complete shipping files. The Rangitoto sailed for Dunedin and Melbourne at 5 p.m. this day. Thk brig Chanticleer, Captain Anderson, arrived in harbour yesterday from Hobart Town via Dunedin ; left Hobart Town on the 2nd inst., with light westerly winds, veering from S.W. to N.W., accompanied by thick and dirty weather, blowing a hard gale from the latter quarter ; on the sth the wind shifted suddenly from N.W. to S.E., blowing a hard gale for three days, during which time the brig was kept head- reaching under close reefed topsails, the wind veering round to the westward. The south end of Stewart's Island was made on the 9th, and had light winds up to arrival at Dunedin Heads at midnight on the 10th. The brig was detained at Port Chalmers owing to a heavy S.W. gale, from the morning of the 14th to the evening of the 16th, and also from having her anchor parted by a large ship ; sailed at 5.30 p.m. on the 16th with light S.W., wind, which hauled into the N.N. W ; sighted the east end of the Peniusula at noon on the 17th, and had light baffling winds up to midnight, when the wind came up from the :••"•. W.
