Dunedin, Jane 2, 7.30 p.m. The Criminal Sessions are over. There were four catiea for valueless cheques, one of horse stealing, one of housebreaking, one of larceny, and one of forgery. The prisoners were all found guilty. A. deputation waited upon the Superintendent from the proposed company to form a railway to port. The Superintendent promised on the part of the Government every assistance to the scheme. The Provincial Council closes ifcs session to-morrow. Wellington, June 2, 7.5 p.m. , At a special meeting of the New Zealand Steam Company to-day a resolution was passed authorising the reduction of capital ; also, one in favour of accepting £21,000 from the Circular Saw Company for the purchase of all the plant aud assets excepting book debts and cash, iv hand. This is equal to about £3 10d per share. Mr Martin intimated his intention to advise his partners to close with the offer. Xjn the House of Representatives Mr Klwards moved the reply to the address very briefly, and Mr Swan seconded. Mr Cracroft "Wilson, C.8., deprecated a further loan, and promised to introduce a scheme for suppressing 1 the rebellion without further borrowing, and Messrs Borlase and Potts said a few \vOr4JW Mr Fox, in the absence of all financial or other information, he, as a private member, was not prepared to move an amendment, but reserved full right hereafter to question or discuss any topic re^ ferred to in the address. He saw no policy in the speech. The reply has been passed.
