Witness brought the prisoner to Christchurch Robert B3attie, landlord of the Warwick Hotel, depos -d that the prisoner had slept in the same room with another mm, whose nam-* he believed to be O'Brien. O'B.ien com plained t-> witness that snmeboly had taken a £5 note out of his pocket. Witness af-.er-words caught h >ld of prisoner, and told him that if he didn't give up the money he won! ! bring him to the Po'ice Du*ot; if he give it up, he would say nothing more about it. Pri soner handed over £4 14*. saving that he hid spent the remainder. The prisoner, -vho had previously served \l months on a charge of larceny, plea*. led gui ty.
