ALFRED MEDAL RIFLE MATCH. rpniS Competition, open to all Canterbury X Volunteers, members of the Rifle Association, and the crews of men-of-war then in harbour, will take place at the RIFLE RANGE, HILLSBOROUGH, ON SATURDAY NEXT, the 24th INST., Commencing at 10 a.m., Under the following conditions : — Five shots at 200 yards (Hythe position.) Five shots at 600 yards (any position.) Rifles to be of Government pattern, which includes long and short Enfield, Lancaster, Snider and Cavalry Carbine. Pull of trigger not under 6 lbs. There will be one sighting shot at 600 yards. Squads not to number more than 10 men each. Targets will be painted out after every fifth shot at 200 yards, and after every tenth shot at 600 yards. Any competitor not making 10 points at 200 yards, will be required to retire from the match. The Prize 3 consist of — THE ALFRED GOLD MEDAL, Value 25 Guineas, Presented by Messrs Petersen and Co., Goldsmiths, High street, And for Second, Third, and Fourth Prizes, the following Cups, subscribed for by a number of gentlemen who bave kindly taken an interest in the match, viz. : — A Silver Tankard, value 10 guineas. Two Electroplated do, value (each) two guineas. An umpire will be appointed, whose decision will be final in all cases of dispute. The Prizes (if it may suit the arrange ments of his Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh), will be presented by him, after the termination of the match, otherwise, at the General Parade on Her Majesty's Birthday.
