WOOL SALES.
The first series of colonial wool sales commenced on the 25th Feb., and comprised 5580 bales. There was a good attendance of home and foreign trade ; s the bidding was not animated. Frir Port Phillip and Adelaide wools, the • prices ruled in favour of buyers, from i £d to Id per pound. Cape showed 1 little, alteration. Sydney and Nejw , Zealand offered in .top limited
quantities to present a fair criterion of value. Arrivals, 117,340 bales. PEODTJCE MAEKETS. Tallow, 45s 3d to 45s 6d ; beef, 388 to 42s ; leather sales have been made at a rather lower rate — lOd and 10^d to Is ; hides, first light, 5f d ; second, 5d ; cocoanut oils, £44. There is little inclination to buy wheat; old is quoted at 63s ; new, at 625. The exports of bar rod iron are 664 tons ; hoop iron, 107 tons ; plate iron, 143 tons ; pig iron, 40 tons; sheet iron, 68 tons ; galvanised iron, 436 tons ; wire rope, 330 tons ; linseed oil, 741-5 gals ; rape oil, 2994 gals ; olive oil, 955 gals ; woolpacks, £316 ; cornsacks, £4920; gunpowder, 242 cwt ; tobacco, 88,3941b5 ; braudy, 34,933 gals ; rum, 4937 gals ; wines, red, 8081 gals ; white, 24,002 gals ; beer, 842 barrels ; do, in glass, 1552 barrels ; salt, 187 tons ; candles, British, 591 boxes ; foreign, 2220 boxes ; currants, 3128 barrels ; cheese, 150 cwt ; malt, 2491 quarters ; fish, 345 cwt. . The total value of the exports to Victoria was £406,953, or an increase of £48,471 ; to Sydney, £359*966, or an increase of £13,687.
