The Rangitikei smallpox patient is recovering. It is reported that Colonel McDonnell has been appointed Commissioner of Police at Sydney. The Council was prorogued last night. The Superintendent reiterated his views regaiding self-reliance in native affairs, and congratulated the Council on the rejection of Mr Pharazyn's auti-provinoial resolutions. The Beautiful Star, steamer, is ashore in Porirua Bay. The steamer is not damaged, and is expected to get off next tide. Si-£ The Provincial Government advertise ten Alpacas for sale in lots- three males and feeveu females. The Duke of Edinburgh has not arrived.
