CITIZENS' BALL.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sir, — I would respectfully suggest to the Reception Committee the desirability of allowing those of the public who feel so disposed to appear in fancy costume at the forthcoming ball. There are, no doubt, amongst us several ex naval and military officers, as well as volunteers, who would not object to appear in appropilate costume upon the occasion ; it would not only add brilliancy to the scene, but would give some little briskness to our dull trade. Such an arrangement has answered well in the other colonies, and has given the greatest satisfaction to our distinguished guest. There is yet plenty of time for the ladies to improvise an elegant and becoming fancy dress, if it is at once publicly intimated that fancy dresses may be worn. Your obedient servant, ALPHA. April 6, 1869.
