The Bench sentenced accused to six hours' imprisonment and eight lushes. Assault. — E. T. Connell was charged with assaulting John Campbell on Monday night. Complainant stated that a dispute arose in the house of accused, where he was boarding. On a'king accused fer some money due, the accused knocked him down and kicked him. Frank Cook, a worn, said he saw the assault. The complainant was knocked down and kicked by accused. Mr J. T. Rouse, surgeon, said the complainant came to hi 3 surgery on Monday night. His head was cut. There was a rough cut, tsvo inches long, over the left temple. A blunt weapon would have done it, or the toe of a boot. The skin was pushed upwards. By accused : A bottle would not do it. In defence, accused said he was struck first. The Bench said it was a gross assault. Accused would be fined 20 shillings and costs, with 21 shillings Burgeon's bill. XJNREGiSTEnED Dog. — Mary Graham was fined 20 shillings, and 4- shillings costs, for having an unregistered dog in her possession.
