AFARTMr NTS FOR THE DUKE OK EdlN*-: •burgh. — The Provincial Government have engaged aen in oi rooms at the Clarendon Hotel, for the accommodation of his Koyal Highness during his visit to Canterbury. Kaiapoi Bohouoh Council. — A full meeting of this body took place last night, but pe-nding the result of Mr Wynn Williams' Application for a new trial, heard to-day before the judge, in banco, it was determined -to adjourn till Wednesday, the Mayor, in the meantime, to see the Government in regard to the bridge. Vg' Illegal Practices. — During the sittings /ih Chambers to-day, his Honor remarked that Borne one was acting illegally in preparing papers in bankruptcy cases, as he Observed them to be nearly all in the same - handwriting where bankrupts were not re- ( pre?e»ted by counsel. He thought the legal profession should take some steps for their own protection. The Royal Reception. — The route which the procession will take upon the arrival of Prince Alfred has been decided. Upon - Ihe arrival of his Royal Highness, the prooession will start from the railway station •«p Manchester street, through StAsaph, High, .and Cashel streets, along Oxford Terrace West, through Market place, along Colombo .atreet, and thence to the Mayor's dejeuner M the Town Hall, by High street. The addresses will be presented to his Royal -.Highness in Cathedral square. After the dgeuner, the Royal visitor will be escorted to liatiraer square, to witness the volunteer review. We believe the erection of an arch across Colombo street, from Mr Gee's corner - to the one opposite, is in contemplation, the funds to be raised by subscription, and the City Council purpose erecting one at the en- ■ trance to Manchester street, another at Cook -and Ross' corner, and a third, near Mr -" Sandstein's shop in Cashel r street.
