The nomination takes place on March 29, the poll April 1. Mr Hugh McDermid has resigned as member of the Executive Council.

Wheat, flour, and potatoes, are declining. Wheat ia offering freely at 4s 4d to 4s 6d ; a further decline ia expected. Flour is reduced to £12 and £12 10s ; demand dull. Oats are lively at 2s 9d to 2s lOd. Barley is in demand at 4s 6d.

The Water Works Company have declared a dividend of eight per cent. Napiee, 6 p.m. Messrs Bold and Gundell who have just returned from Taupo, report that the Hau-haus are constantly meeting, and that the friendlies are very apprehensive. The Gazette, to-day, notifies that " The New Zealand Government has withdrawn from his Honor Donald M'Lean, Esq., the authority he has held as its agent on the East Coast." It is presumed this is done in consequence of his action in preventing Kopata and the Ngatiporou proceeding to the West Coast.

The Governor's assent is gazetted to the proclamations of the Superintendents of Canterbury, Otago, and Southland, under the Diseased Cattle Acts, dated Canterbury, 3rd and 20th February; Otago, 17th February; Southland, 24th December.
